 _ ,
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MEMORANDUM
NO. 90-248
October 30, 1990
TO: Honorable Mayor Gary K. Anderson
and City Council Members
FROM: James C. Bacon, Jr. , City Manager
SUBJECT: Rehabilitation Municipal Parking Lot #1
Municipal Parking Lot #1, located at Wood and Main Streets is
city owned and principally serves courthouse patrons and visitors
to businesses on the southern edge of the Central Business Dis-
trict.
The original proposals for rehabilitation of this lot included
resurfacing and realignment of stalls to bring the lot into com-
pliance with current handicapped parking standards. Initial es-
timated and budgeted cost for the project was $35, 000 to be drawn
from motor vehicle parking system funds. Revised estimates for
the parking lot rehabilitation totals $57, 000.
Upon additional staff review, it was recommended that landscape
treatments be added to the scope of work. The proposed landscap-
ing would include the construction of a 3 1/2 foot brick wall on
the northern and western edges of the lot and a five foot plant-
ing strip on the eastern, northern, and western sides of the
parking facility.
Plantings will include 14 honey locust trees, small shrubs, and
ground cover. The approximate cost of the landscape treatment is
$25, 000 to be paid from motor vehicle parking system funds. To-
tal project cost is approximately $82 , 000.
Staff seeks approval to authorize the bidding of the project.
