Information for the individual routes will be compared with
the system average to identify those routes which need attention
in terms of either additional marketing, alteration, or deletion
from the system.
One of the City' s pri.mary goals is its commitment to
improved service. Therefore, the consultant should look closely
at unserved areas where there is a potential demand for public
transportation. This would include not only unserved areas of
Decatur, but the possible expansion of service to adjoining
communities.
And the consultant should also consider any new, innovative,
or more cost-efficient or alternative means of providing transit
services to the community. This would include feeder routes,
downtown circulator routes, cross-town routes, or taxi-cab
service or other contracted services.
TASIC 5 . Inventory of Equipment and Facilities and Review of
Marketing Program
An inventory of existing capital equipment, including
rolling stock and fixed facilities, will be obtained from tr.e
Decatur Public Transit System. The consultant will thoroughly
inspect the equipment and facilities. This will include interior
and exterior inspections of the buses and a complete walk-thru of
the bus maintenance garage and the storage facility. A spot
check of the vehicle maintenance records will be made during this
inspection tour. In-depth discussions will be held with transit
management personnel so that the consultant can understand the ',
vehicle and property maintenance procedures and sandards
(particularly the preventative maintenance program for the I
bnse s) . ',
Since marketing is vital to making the public aware of the
transit system and the services it provides, the consultant will il
also review DPT's marketing program. This will include media l
advertising, promotional programs, route maps and schedules,
transit literature, dissemination of public information, etc.
