EXCERPTS FROM
TRAFFIC & PARKING COMMITTEE MEETING
JULY 14, 1993
— Item #2 Request for stop signs at the intersection of North
33rd Street and Meadow Lane.
Swartz noted that staff has recommended that stop signs should be
placed on Meadow Lane. ,
Newell stated he cannot see why the accident rate is so high at
this intersection, but the traffic on 33rd seems to be the
through and dominating street in the neighborhood. The speeds on
33rd are significantly higher than on Meadow Lane.
Swartz stated the ADT is not high enough to place a stop sign in
a normal circumstance.
Newell stated there is no standard ADT at which to place stop
signs for a two-way stop condition. There are traffic require-
ments for four-way stops.
Swartz does not want to set a precedence for future situations
like this. .
Newell stated that the accident rate requires attention, even
though the traffic volumes are low.
It was moved and seconded (Hughes/Curlin) to accept staff recom-
mendation for the placement of stop signs on 33rd Street facing
Meadow Lane. There being no one opposed, the motion carried.
