EXCERPTS FROM
TRAFFIC & PAFtKING COMMITTEE MEETING
JULY 14, 1993
Item #1 Request for stop signs at the intersection of Prairie
Street and 24th Street.
David Swartz noted that staff has received a petition with 40
signatures requesting stop signs at this intersection.
Matt Newell stated the accident rate at this intersection is
substantially higher than the average rate.
Edward Hunter stated that the residents of the neighborhood are
afraid for the children who play in the yards because of the
vehicles which travel at a high rate of speed.
It was moved and seconded (Moss/Hughes) to accept staff recommen-
dation for the installation of stop signs on 24th Street facing
Prairie Street due to the high accident rate at the intersection.
Bryan Curlin asked if there are any reservations because the
average daily traffic (ADT) counts are so close.
Matt stated that he is not concerned about that because speeds
are higher on 24th Stret. He believes Prairie should be re-
quired to stop.
Mr. Hunter agreed that this is the logical thing to do.
There being no one opposed, the motion carried.
