Weaver, Community Development Acting Director � <br /> SUBJECT: Amendments to Subdivision Ordinance relative to <br /> drainage facilities for sump pumps • <br /> At the request of the Department of Public Works, David A. Clark, <br /> former director of Community Development, petitioned the City <br /> Council to amend the Subdivision Code to provide for a sump pump <br /> discharge collection system. On Thursday, March 4, 1993 the City <br /> Plan Commission considered the petition. <br /> The purpose of the proposed change is to control the discharge of <br /> sump pumps. At the present time, the connection of sump pumps to <br /> the sanitary system is prohibited by local ordinance. However, <br /> following the final inspection of the plumbing system on new <br /> construction, sump pumps are often times connected to the <br /> sanitary system. This practice can substantially overload the <br /> sanitary system and is believed to be the cause of system <br /> surcharging. The Sanitary District has strongly encouraged the <br /> City to adopt such an ordinance. The ordinance intent and <br /> content is very similar to an ordinance already in effect in <br /> Forsyth. <br /> Staff actively solicited the comments of the home builders and <br /> the real estate communities. The home builders e�tpressed <br /> reservations regarding the proposed ordinance while the realtors <br /> expressed no opposition. - <br /> Staff recommends approval of the proposed ordinance as presented. <br /> Staff will be present to answer any questions regarding the <br /> proposed change. <br />
