CLARK, DIRECTOR OF COI�IIKUNITY DEVELOPMENT, to amend the Sub- division Ordinance (Ord. ,�80-56) rela.tive to drainage facilities for sump pwaaps. Mr. Weaver spoke for the petition stating that the Plan Commission does not often hear proposed changes to the subdivision ordinance but these types of petitions are within the scope of responsibility of the Commission. The proposed change assists in establishing a standard in the community for construction in a new development. The amendment suggested a need in the community to dispose of sump pump water discharged from basements without illegal connection to the sanitary sewer system. If the topography is such to allow discharge into a streamway located on the property then that would be acceptable. Mr. Hunt questioned if this proposed change would deal with new construction. Mr. Weaver answered yes. Mr. Thomas questioned if this would prohibit discharge into the street. Mr. Weaver stated that it would. Mr. Hunt questioned if existing connections could be inspected. Mr. Weaver stated that the illeqal connections occur following a final inspection and it becomes legally cumbersome to enter homes to reinspect. ' Mr. Hunt questioned if consideration had been given regardinq cost for new home construction. Mr. Weaver stated that consideration had been given to cost but overloading of the sanitary system would cause surcharging and possible future construction of a new sanitary system. Public Works will be ' surveyinq neighborhoods and determining where storm water is coming into the sanitary sewer system. Staff recommends approval of the petition as presented. There were no objectors present. It was moved and seconded (Kaptain/Thomas) and approved that Cal. No. 93-10 be forwarded to City Council for approval with one nay vote by Mr. Hunt.
