.
. =- .
EXCERPTS FROM
TRAFFIC & PARKING COMMITTEE MEETING
DECEMBER 11 , 1991
ITEM #1 Request for stop signs on Cleveland Avenue facing 17th
Street to replace the existing yield signs and "No
Right Turn" for northbound 17th Street. .
It was noted that this particular item is close to
Eisenhower High School and that the request came from the liaison .
officer at Eisenhower High School.
Dr. Cook stated that he felt that when going up the hill , it
was very difficult to see if you needed to stop.
Mr. Newell stated that the officer who requested the item
had discussed it with both of the principals of Eisenhower and
Southeast Schools and they were in agreement with the request.
Mr. Swartz questioned if there was also a problem at Lincoln
and 17th. He stated that if traffic were stopped at Cleveland,
then there were several additional blocks before that and that
traffic had to stop at Cantrell Street and he wondered if there
was a need for a stop sign at Lincoln and 17th also.
Mr. Newell stated that he would not recommend unilateral
placement of a stop sign at this location and thought that a
yield sign might be warranted in the future.
Dr. Cook moved to accept staff recommendation to replace the
existing yield signs with stop signs at 17th and Cleveland.
Bryan Curlin seconded the motion and it was unanimously
carried.
