s , :
ADMINISTRATIVE MEMORANDUM
#91-39
April 15 , 1991
T0: Phyllis E. Sands, City Clerk
FROM: James C. Ba n, Jr. , City Manager
RE: Refuse Rate Increase
Sixteen haulers who presently operate under Chapter 56 of
the Decatur Municipal Code filed for rate increases . A review of
their requests was considered at public hearings held in
accordance with the Code. A summary of their requests is
attached.
The haulers sought an increase based on at least one of the
following reasons:
1) Increase in operating expenses such as office supplies ,
postage, insurance, vehicles, license, workmen' s
compensation, telephone charges , electricity increases ,
social security taxes;
2) Increase in landfill charges;
3) Increased cost associated with collection of yard
waste; and,
4) Desire for increased profit.
In addition to the reasons cited, haulers are expected to
provide financial information which compares their operational
data for several periods. That information is a part of the
record and was used to evaluate the haulers ' requests . Based on
all the information available, I have decided to recommend an
increase in maximum allowable rates as follows :
SERVICE PRESENT RATE RECOMMENDED RATE
Single Family $10 .45/mo $10 .90/mo
Duplex $15 .70/mo $17 .10/mo
Triplex $20 .60/mo $21 .50/mo
Fourplex $25 .75/mo $26 .85/mo
Fiveplex $30 .85/mo $32 .20/mo
