.4......:..��..... .,.. . .. . . . . . ` � May 29, 1986 Mr. Robert Menzies Planning Coordinator Community Development 1 Civic Center Plaza Decatur, Illinois 62523 Dear Mr. Menzies: LaSante, Inc. , a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Hospital Sisters Health System, has initiated the development of a 61,000 plus square foot medical office building to be located on the western portion of St. Mary's Hospital campus. However, in the process of developing the project it has been discovered that all of the hospital campus was not included in the Decatur Enterprise Zone by the City Council action in 1982, although the hospital had requested that all the hospital property be included. Apparently the west half of the hospital proper was inadvertently omitted from the Enterprise Zone. This area is located from Lake Shore Drive on the south to the boundary line with the School District (Eisenhower High School) on the north, and from the east half of the hospital property to the west of the hospital's intersection with Buena Vista and Riverside Street (at 17th Street) . St. Mary's Hospital and St. Mary's Health Services, Inc. continue to support for the Decatur Community the legislative intent of the Enterprise Zone for the encouragement, development, growth and expansion of the private sector in certain depressed areas in Illinois. The planned medical office building will be an economic stimulus to Decatur as it will create added employment for both construction and operation of the building. It shall also have a secondary effect of stimulating business, services and other important areas of the Decatur economy. This project will have a significant economic effect. Also, it supports the legislative purposes of the Enterprise Zone. The present Decatur Enterprise Zone indicates a precedence for including the entire campus of other health care providers.
