� <br /> �:'�����iLMED <br /> � <br /> ORDINANCE NO. �� <br /> ORDINANCE AMENDING CITY CODE <br /> CHAPTER 21 - COMI��ISSION ON <br /> HUMAN RELATIONS <br /> . <br /> BE �IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS: <br /> Section 1. That the City Code be, and it is hereby, amended <br /> at Chapter 21 thereof so that as so amended Section 5 , 6 , 7 and 8 <br /> of said Chapter shall provide as follows : . <br /> 5 . The Commission shall, in cooperation with the <br /> Mayor, City Council, City Manager, departments, agencies <br /> and officials , endeavor to assure fair and equal treat- <br /> ment under the 1aw to all citizens, to protect the rights <br /> of all persons to enjoy public accommodations and facili- <br /> ties and to receive equal treatment from all agencies of i <br /> the City and from a11 holders of licenses, contracts and <br /> privileges from the City and to assure equality of I <br /> opportunity for employment and advancement in the City f <br /> government. � <br /> � <br /> 6 . The Commission shall advise and consult with the <br /> Mayor and Council in all matters involving prejudice or <br /> d,iscrzmination based upon race, sex, religion, ethnic <br /> origin, age or physical or mental handicap unrelated to <br /> ability, and recommend such legislative action as it deems <br /> appropriate to effectuate the policy of this Chapter, and <br /> shall also seek to accomplish the goals and purposes of <br /> the Commission through fact finding, education, conciliation <br /> and persuasion. <br /> 7 . The Commission may receive and investigate complaints <br /> and may initiate its own investigations of tensions, practices <br /> of discrimination or acts of prejudice against any person or <br /> group based upon race, sex, religion, ethnic origin, age or <br /> physical or mental handicap unrelated to ability, and carry on <br /> research, obtain factual data and conduct hearings to ', <br /> ascertain the status and treatment of inembers of particular I <br />
