Cherches , Director Dept . of Conmunity Development SUBJECT : Further �mandments to Ordinance ;�5919 In our continuous effort to eliminate uznecessazy , confusing reoulations and archaic materials from our Building Codes , I am recommending that the following sections oi Ordinance ��919 be del�ted . These sections pertain to subjects covered in other codes , specifically BOCA, Life Safety , and the One & T�.�o Faaily Dwellings Code . These sections , when viewed indi- vidually , or in conjunction with other portions of the national codes , create confusion , consternation and sometimes anger on the part of the affected contractors . I believe it in the best interest oF the community to delete these soaetiaes conflictino sections , especially when the intent and purpose of the regu- lations are more applicable as stated in the conditional cri- teria of the national code . Section 23 - Termite Protection BOCA Section 874 . 0 "Protection 3gainst Decay and Termites" , is more comprehensive and precise as stated in the BOCA code . Section 24 - Door Locks The Life SaPety Code Section 5-2 "Doors" addresses itself to the subject oE door locks . The City Ordinance ��5919 Section 24 conflicts in part and is less comprehensive than the portion in the bOCA Code . Section 27 - Lumber Grading City sectioa prohibits the use of used lumber . BOCA Section 800.5 permits used materials meeting specified miaimum require- ments . All materials are governed by specifications set forth in Section 300 . 0 , "*�aterials and tests" and Appendix "C" . Section 28 - One Hour Rating Ceilings City ' s Section specifically requires one hour rated ceilings with five exceptions . BOCA Article II provides for rated ceilings undez certain conditions . In other instances , ceilings are either not required or do not require the one hour rating . BOCA provides for some trade off in constructioa methods and still achieves the same measure of safety .
