`. _ � . <br /> . % <br /> ORDINANCF_ NO. ;�� <br /> AN ORDINANCE AI�NDI NG CHAPTER 8 OF THE <br /> CITY CODE -- AUXILIARY POLICE. <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE QOUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DECATUR, <br /> ILLINOIS: <br /> Section 1 . That Chapter 8 of the City Coc3e of the City of <br /> Decatur, Illinois be, and the same is hereby, amended by adding <br /> Sections 9 through 16 thereto, said additional sections to pro- <br /> vide as follows: <br /> 9. That the Mayor of the City of Decatur, Illinois, <br /> with the advice an d consent of the Council be , a nd he is <br /> hereby, authorized to appoint auxiliary policemen, as em- <br /> ployees of the City, in such number as the Council shall <br /> from time to time establish by resolution. <br /> 10. That before any such auxiliary policeman is so <br /> appointed an investigation of the character and reputa- <br /> tion of the candidate for appointment of such depth and <br /> scope as shall be c�eemed sufficient by the Chief of Police <br /> shall be made. Prior to such appointment of any auxiliary <br /> policeman his fingerprints shall oe taken and no person <br /> shall be appointed as such auxiliary po liceman if he has <br /> been convicted of a felony or other crime involving moral <br /> turpitude. <br /> 11. That such appointments as auxiliary policemen <br /> shall be for an indefinite term. The appointment of any <br /> or all auxiliary policemen may be terminated by the Mayor <br /> ivith the advice and consent of the Council. <br /> 12. Such auxiliary policemen shall not be members <br /> of the regular Police �epartment of the City and shall <br /> not supplement mem bers of the regular police department <br /> in the performance -of their assigned and normal duties <br /> except as othe rwi�e provided in this chapter or as pro- <br /> vided by applicable statute. Auxiliary policemen shall <br /> be residents of the City of Uecatur, Illinois. The uni- <br /> forms and identification symbols worn by such auxiliary <br /> policemen shall be different and distinct from those worn <br /> and used by members of the regular police department which <br /> uniforms and symbols shall be selected by the Chief of <br /> Police . Auxiliary policemen shall at all times during the <br /> perform ance of their duties be subject to the direction <br /> and control of the Chief of Police. <br />
