Item Coversheet Page 1 of 1 T Fire Department DATE: 10/26/2016 MEMO: 16-10 TO: Honorable Mayor Moore Wolf and City Council FROM: Tim Gleason,City Manager Jeff Abbott,Fire Chief SUBJECT: Resolution Accepting the Bid of Motorola Solutions for the Purchase of 10 Fire Department Portable Radios and Accessories SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends awarding the bid to Motorola Solutions Inc.to provide ten(10) APX6000 radios and accessories. BACKGROUND: The portable radios are used by the Fire Department for communications in emergency and non-emergency situations. They will replace portable radios that have been discontinued and will no longer be serviced after October,2019. The Fire Department currently operates 53 portable radios, 10 have already been replaced. At$4393.50 per radio,a phased replacement schedule has been implemented to prevent having to replace them all at once. In 2015 the first set of 10 were purchased and we plan to purchase 10 this year. The APX 6000 is design specifically for firefighting operations. The radio is P25 certified,this is the digital two-way radio standard. The P25 enables interoperability with other agencies within the city and agencies statewide. The City's Dispatch Center has subscribed to the STARCOM Network that is managed by Motorola. This limits us to purchasing Motorola radios from Motorola Solutions Inc. Barbeck Communications is the authorized Motorola supplier for this area.
