Item Coversheet Page 1 of 1 <br /> Public Works <br /> DATE: 3/24/2017 <br /> MEMO: 2017-23 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Moore Wolfe and City Council Members <br /> FROM: Tim Gleason,City Manager <br /> Richard G.Marley,P.E.,Public Works Director <br /> SUBJECT: Ordinance Authorizing the Installation of Stop Signs at the Intersection of East Main Street and 23rd Street Facing <br /> 23rd Street. <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the approval of the attached Ordinance authorizing the installation of <br /> stop signs at the intersection of East Main Street and 23rd Street facing 23rd Street. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> February 23,2017—Traffic&Parking Commission approved a request from City staff recommending that the stop signs be <br /> installed at the intersection of East Main Street and 23`d Street with the stop signs facing 23`d Street. <br /> Decatur Police Department notified City staff that the intersection of East Main Street and 23`d Street has no current traffic control <br /> and has had multiple accidents.Based on the traffic volumes the accident rate is high enough to warrant stop signs. <br /> The Traffic and Parking Commission's recommendation is attached with the ordinance for Council's review. <br /> SCHEDULE: Stop signs are usually installed within 14 days of approval. <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: No objections anticipated. <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Traffic and Parking Commission <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Richard Marley,Public Works Director,and Matt Newell,City Engineer.Richard Marley,Public Works <br /> Director,will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any questions of the Council on this item. <br /> BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: <br /> Budget Impact: Budgetary impacts are approximately$250 for the installation of the requested signs and pavement markings. <br /> Staffing Impact: Approximately 2 hours of staff time to make and install the signs. <br /> ATTACHMENTS: <br /> Description Type <br /> 2017-23 Ordinance Ordinance <br /> 2017-23 Location Map Backup Material <br /> 2017-23 Excerpt from T&P Meeting Backup Material <br /> https://decatur.novusagenda.com/AgendaWeb/CoverSheet.aspx?ItemID=1074 4/3/2017 <br />
