Southside Dr. <br /> Decatur, IL 62521 <br /> Dear Chief Getz, <br /> This year marks the first year of the Decatur Lakeside Triathlon,an event held in Decatur for the past 10 years <br /> under the name of The Rodney T. Miller Lakeside Triathlon.The race weekend is scheduled for July 8&9, 2017, <br /> with the kids race on Saturday beginning at 7:30 am and the adult race on Sunday also beginning at 7:30 am. We <br /> are requesting assistance from the Decatur Police Department and Police Auxiliary in street closures for these <br /> events. <br /> The Kids Race is primarily contained within the confines of Nelson Park, requiring the closure of no city streets, <br /> however we do request that the south entrance to Nelson Park/Chandler Park at Lost Bridge Road be secured and <br /> closed no later than 7:00 am on Saturday. Lake Shore Drive at the intersection of 22nd Street,Cantrell Street and <br /> Lake Shore Drive is also requested to close at 7:00 am, as well as the extension of Lake Shore Drive just south of <br /> Lake Grove Club be closed at the same time.The Kids Race is typically completed and roads may be opened again <br /> by 11:00 am. <br /> On Sunday, the Adult Race takes place, requiring the closure of the south entrance to Nelson/Chandler Park from <br /> Lost Bridge Road,and Lake Shore Drive at the intersection of Lake Shore Drive, 22nd Street and Cantrell Street <br /> extending into Nelson Park, and Nelson Park Boulevard at Lake Shore Drive. These closures would take place at <br /> 6:15 am. We do also request that the following streets be closed to vehicular traffic for the duration of the race: <br /> South Lake Shore Drive from its termination just north of the US 36 underpass and through North Lake Shore <br /> Drive turning east onto East Lake Shore Drive; East Lake Shore Drive to it's intersection with East Park Lane and <br /> Brush College; Brush College north to East William Street; the two eastbound lanes of East William Street across <br /> the William Street Bridge and east to the East William Street Road; Illinois 105/East William Street then becomes <br /> two lane State Highway. Closure of Illinois 105 east to Greenway Road is also requested. <br /> Traffic is requested held until all bicycles have completed this portion of the course,at which time all roads east <br /> and north of North Lake Shore Drive at East Lake Shore Drive may resume normal traffic flow.As the run portion <br /> of the triathlon completes,we anticipate a return to normal traffic via communication with police and volunteer <br /> traffic coordinators as runners clear the course and allow for safe passage back to the park and the finish line. <br /> /Thank you for your consideration and support. <br /> 4 i <br /> eller <br /> Race Chair and Director <br /> Decatur Lakeside Triathlon <br /> cc: Deputy Chief Jason Walker <br /> City Clerk <br />
