Q a _g� ,MICROfJL�11j�� � ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING PARTICIPATION IN ILLINOIS FIRE PROTECTION ACT PROGRAMS WHEREAS, the City of Decatur desires to participate in the programs authorized and administered under the Illinois Fire Protection Training Act, as amended; and, WHEREAS, to be eligible for such participation applicable law provides that participating local governmental agencies shall require that before an individual may commence regular employment as a fire fighter such individual must have been certified as having successfully completed an approved training course; and, WHEREAS, the City intends to establish its own school or to utilize some other school certified for the purpose of pro- viding the training required under said Act. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS: Section 1. That participation by the City in the programs authorized by and administered under the Illinois Fire Protection Training Act be, and the same is hereby, elected. Section 2 . That before an individual may commence regular employment as a fire fighter of the City, such individual shall .have been certified under the provisions of said Act as having successfully completed an approved training course thereunder. Section 3 . That the City Manager and the Civil Service Commission be, and they are hereby, authorized and directed to cause the rules and regulations applicable to tire department personnel to be amended and modified so as to require that any person appointed to the fire service of the City shall not become a regular employee thereof unless and until completion of such ; approved training course and certification thereof within the one (1) year probationary period currently provided for initial appointment in the classified fire service.
