Excerpts from Traffic & Parking Commission Meeting Minutes
January 25, 2018
Item 92 Request for stop signs along Burgener Drive at its intersection with East
Redlich Drive.
City staff received a request from a resident for stop signs at the intersection of E. Redlich Drive
and Burgener Drive citing accidents and close calls as the reason for the request.
Upon reviewing accident records it was found that there have been two recorded angle crashes at
this intersection within the last three years. Angle crashes occur when a vehicle on one street
collides with a vehicle on a crossing street. Stop signs can help reduce angle crashes.
Traffic counts show a total of around 286 vehicles entering the intersection per day with 193 of
them on E. Redlich Drive and 93 of them on Burgener Drive. The accident rate at this
intersection is 6.39 accidents per million vehicles entering the intersection. Typically, the Traffic
& Parking Commission looks for accident-rates above 1.5 accidents per million vehicles entering
the intersection to determine if stop signs are warranted.
City staff recommends installing stop signs facing Burgener Drive at its intersection with E.
Redlich Drive as Burgener Drive has less traffic.
Lyle Meador motioned to move forward with placing stop signs facing Burgener Drive at its
intersection with E. Redlich Drive. Seconded by Matt Newell, and on call of the roll,
Commission Members Broderick,Newell, Hurst, Meador and Stewart voted aye. The chairman
declared the motion carried.
