Item Coversheet Page 1 of 1 <br /> in <br /> Public Works <br /> DATE: 5/14/2018 <br /> MEMO: 2018-21 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Moore Wolfe and City Council Members <br /> FROM: Tim Gleason,City Manager <br /> Matthew C.Newell,Public Works Director <br /> SUBJECT: Ordinance Establishing Handicapped Parking Space at the Southernmost Parking Space Along the West Side of <br /> North Martin Luther King Jr Drive in the Parking Lane which ends 195 Feet North of the Centerline of East Marietta Street <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the approval of the attached Ordinance authorizing the installation of a <br /> handicapped parking space near the front of 1001 North Martin Luther King Jr Drive as recommended by the Traffic&Parking <br /> Commission. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> April 26,2018-Traffic&Parking Commission approved a request from City staff recommending the installation of a <br /> handicapped parking space at the on-street parking space closest to 1001 North Martin Luther King Jr Drive,which was requested <br /> by the tenant,who resides at this location. In this area,there are public parking spaces located to the right of drivers. This <br /> handicapped space would go at the south end of the parking area on that block. <br /> The Traffic&Parking Commission's recommendation is attached with the ordinance for Council's review. <br /> SCHEDULE: Installation is normally completed within 14 days of Council authorization. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: None <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: No objections anticipated <br /> INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Traffic&Parking Commission <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell,Public Works Director,and Griffin Enyart,Assistant City Engineer.Matt Newell,Public <br /> Works Director,will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any questions of the Council on this item. <br /> BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: <br /> Budget Impact: Budgetary impacts are approximately$400 for the installation of the requested signs and pavement markings. <br /> Staffing Impact: Approximately 4 hours of staff time to make and install the signs. <br /> ATTACHMENTS: <br /> Description Type <br /> 2018-21 Ordinance Ordinance <br /> 2018-21 Man Backup Material <br /> 2018-21 T&P Commission Mins Backup Material <br /> https:Hdecatur.novusagenda.com/AgendaWeb/CoverSheet.aspx?ItemID=1512 5/21/2018 <br />
