MINUTES OF THE MEETING <br /> OF THE <br /> HONORARY STREET SIGN COMMITTEE <br /> Thursday, April 26, 2018 <br /> Economic & Community Development Conference Room, 3rd Floor <br /> Decatur Civic Center <br /> I. Call to Order <br /> The April 26, 2018 meeting of the Honorary Street Sign Committee was called to order at 3:00 P.M. <br /> in the Economic and Community Development Conference Room, 3rd floor of the Decatur Civic <br /> Center, by Ms. Richelle Irons. All present introduced themselves. <br /> Members Present: Kent West, City Neighborhood Representative <br /> Dana Ray, City Council <br /> Francie Johnson, Community Member-at-Large <br /> Ed Hurst, Decatur Police Department <br /> Richelle Irons, Economic & Community Development Department <br /> Staff Present: Janet Poland, Economic & Community Development Department <br /> Ms. Irons reviewed the criteria for an honorary street name designation. <br /> II. New Business <br /> Review application submitted by Ashleigh Allen recommending Les Allen for an Honorary <br /> Street sign. The sign would be located at the corner of West Main Street and South Linden <br /> Street. <br /> The Committee reviewed the above application (attached). Les Allen served the City of Decatur as <br /> City Manager for sixteen (16) years and also volunteered his time to several local organizations. He <br /> moved to the west end when he accepted the job as City Manager. His widow still resides there. <br /> Two (2) letters of support from a former City Manager and former Mayor accompanied the <br /> application. <br /> It was moved and seconded (Ray/West) to accept the application and forward to the City Council <br /> with a recommendation for approval. <br /> III. Appearance of Citizens <br /> No citizen expressed comments. <br /> IV. Comments and Information from Commission Members <br /> No committee member expressed comments. <br /> V. Adjournment <br /> There being no further business, it was moved and seconded (Ray/West) to adjourn the meeting. <br /> Motion carried unanimously. Ms. Irons declared the meeting adjourned at 3:12 P.M. <br />
