MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE HONORARY STREET SIGN COMMITTEE Thursday, April 26, 2018 Economic & Community Development Conference Room, 3rd Floor Decatur Civic Center I. Call to Order The April 26, 2018 meeting of the Honorary Street Sign Committee was called to order at 3:00 P.M. in the Economic and Community Development Conference Room, 3rd floor of the Decatur Civic Center, by Ms. Richelle Irons. All present introduced themselves. Members Present: Kent West, City Neighborhood Representative Dana Ray, City Council Francie Johnson, Community Member-at-Large Ed Hurst, Decatur Police Department Richelle Irons, Economic & Community Development Department Staff Present: Janet Poland, Economic & Community Development Department Ms. Irons reviewed the criteria for an honorary street name designation. II. New Business Review application submitted by Ashleigh Allen recommending Les Allen for an Honorary Street sign. The sign would be located at the corner of West Main Street and South Linden Street. The Committee reviewed the above application (attached). Les Allen served the City of Decatur as City Manager for sixteen (16) years and also volunteered his time to several local organizations. He moved to the west end when he accepted the job as City Manager. His widow still resides there. Two (2) letters of support from a former City Manager and former Mayor accompanied the application. It was moved and seconded (Ray/West) to accept the application and forward to the City Council with a recommendation for approval. III. Appearance of Citizens No citizen expressed comments. IV. Comments and Information from Commission Members No committee member expressed comments. V. Adjournment There being no further business, it was moved and seconded (Ray/West) to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Ms. Irons declared the meeting adjourned at 3:12 P.M.
