August 1, 2016 <br /> Re: Honorary Street Designation,Leslie T.Allen <br /> To Whom It May Concern, <br /> I am writing in support of the application for an Honorary Street Designation for Leslie T.Allen, <br /> former City Manager of the City of Decatur. Mr.Allen served the City of Decatur with <br /> distinction for many years. I feel that honoring his contribution to the City via an honorary <br /> street designation would be an appropriate way to give credence to his efforts. <br /> I was fortunate to serve as City Manager for the City bf Decatur for just over six years. During <br /> my tenure, I spent many hours conversing with Mr.Allen about his perspectives on the City and <br /> learning from his extensive knowledge of its infrastructure. He was always willingto give of his <br /> time and knowledge to help me become a better City Manager. Also, Mr.Allen was held in high <br /> esteem bythe Illinois City/County Managers Association and was awarded some of their top <br /> honors during his career. Furthermore,he served as a"Range Rider"during his retirement by <br /> volunteering to assist other cities in their search for talented individuals to lead their ' <br /> communifies. <br /> Mr.Allen's donation of his time and knowledge did not end with city management. He <br /> volunteered a tremendous number of hours with local hospitals,religious organizations and <br /> other groups in our community. I understand that this Honorary Street Designation is reserved <br /> for those who made efforts and contributions in excess of their job descriptions. I think you can <br /> see that Mr.Allen more than exemplifies that character and requirement. <br /> Mr.Allen's contribution to our community is obvious,and we are a better city and state <br /> because of it. Also,Mr.Allen served our country with honor during both WWII and the Korean <br /> War.
