Page A-7
TASK 6. Systems Model for Alternative Evaluations
Here we can combine operation of additional supply alternatives with Lake Decatur operation
under drought scenarios to assess not only how best to use one or more alternatives, but also to
examine operating rules for Decatur water managers. This tool can also be turned over to Decatur for
possible future scenarios.
Subtasks:
1. Create Goldsim player to assist in the assessment of alternative additional supplies by combining a host
of inputs including: Lake Decatur bathymetry, hydrologic inputs for 10-month drought, drought demand
scenario Lake withdrawals(Decatur and ADM),connection to other potential sources
2. Run Goldsim player to evaluate potential source timing of release(within yield constraints) in
combination with alternate demand curves during the 10-month design drought
3. Develop Goldsim dashboard to allow City to modify inputs/demands/sources and evaluate Water Supply
under changed conditions
4. Develop new operational rules for the raw water supply system
Results and Products:
• GoldSim model including:
o Physical description of Lake Decatur
o Hydrologic inputs for 10-month drought
o Connection to other potential sources—yield and timing
o ADM Lake withdrawals
o Drought demand scenarios
• Decision Support Tool:
o GoldSim Player file and dashboard to allow City to modify inputs/demands/sources and evaluate
Water Supply under changed conditions
• Model results defining the 10-month drought-supply gap
• Model results assessing potential alternate sources and impacts on the supply gap
• Alternate scenarios to be defined in discussions with the City. Could include assessing alternate demand
curves during the 10-month drought, alternate ADM demands, alternate operating rules for reservoir
and other sources,or reduced lake volume due to sedimentation
• Bullet list of proposed operating rules
