Many of the municipaliries will be adopting the 2015 or even the 2018 version of these codes this year. By updating ours we
will be aligned with the other commwuties.
The language for actual adoption of these codes as well as any additions, deletions,or amendments that are specific to Decatur
are shown in our City Code Chapters 44,67,67.2,68,69,and 70(copies of which are attached). We have eliminated most
changes that were done the last time we adopted new codes. This rime we are for the most part adopring those codes"as is"
without many alterations. This will be easier for building designers, contractors and property owners to navigate through when
deternvning requirements for building in our jurisdiction.
One significant requirement that was added to the Residential Building Code beginning in 2009 was for new single-family homes
to have sprinklers installed. As with all other communities in downstate Illinois,we elected to delete that requirement and will
continue to do so until such time when it becomes more feasible for builders to include in an already tight housing market or if it
is mandated by State Law.
The goal of these codes and their enforcement is to create and maintain a safe environment for our citizens in their homes,
workplace, and other public buildings. Understanding the importance of encouraging new development and construction in our
community,we strive to maintain a"friendly"environment for those who wish to live or do business here.
POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None we are aware of
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES:
Changes to City Code Chapters 67 and 67.2 were reviewed, discussed and approved by the Construction and Housing Board of
Appeals.
