Economic&Conunuuity Development <br /> DATE: 11/5/2018 <br /> MEMO: No. 18-22 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council <br /> FROM: Billy Tyus,Interim City Manager <br /> Raymond I.ai,AICP,Economic and Community Development Directar <br /> Susan Kretsinger,Neighborhood Inspections Administrator <br /> Dan Kline,Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention and Administration <br /> SUBJECT: <br /> City Code Chapters 44,67,67.2,68,69,and 70 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> The Economic and Cominuiuty Development Deparhnent and the Fire Depariment would like to recommend adoption of the <br /> following codes as updates to the current corresponding versions we are using: <br /> For City Code Chapter 44-2015 International Fire Code <br /> For City Code Chapter 67-2015 International Building Code <br /> For City Code Chapter 67.2-2015 Intemational Residential Building Code <br /> For City Code Chapter 68-2015 International Mechanical and Fuel Gas Code <br /> For City Code Chapter 69-2014 National Electrical Code <br /> For City Code Chapter 70-2015 International Property Maintenance Code <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The Building Inspections Division,along with Neighborhood Inspections and the City Fire Inspectors use these International <br /> Codes as Model Codes for inspecting new construction and e�sring buildings to deternune compliance to miiumum standards of <br /> building safety,property maintenance,and fire prevention methods The National Electrical Code is used for the same purpose <br /> but it is published by a different source. Most municipalities and communities in the United States and many other countries use <br /> these same codes as their standards for minimum compliance. The codes are updated every three years based on <br /> recommendations from inspectors,fire officials,building product manufactures and others in the building industry. Each <br /> municipality decides when to update the code versions that they use.
