PUBLIC WORKS MEMORANDUM <br /> N(}. 2019-06 <br /> DATE: January 23,2019 <br /> T4: Honarable Mayor JuIie Moore Woife and City Council Members <br /> FROM: Billy Tyus,Interim City Manager <br /> Matthew C.Newell,P.E.,Public Works Director <br /> SUBJECT: Resolution to Appropriate Additianal Motor Fuel Tax Funds to Pay the City's <br /> Partion to Improve the Maund Raad 1 Spring Creek West and Middle Bridges, <br /> Structures 058-3035 and 058-3036 <br /> City Project 2017-06 <br /> SUMMARY REC4MMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached Resalution authorizing the Mayar to <br /> sign, and the City Clerk ta attest to the Resoiutian appropriating an additianal $150,000 in State <br /> Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds to pay for the City's portion of the improvement of the Maund Road <br /> West and Middle Bridges over Spring Creek. The additianal funds are added to the $475,000 in <br /> MFT funds appraved previously for a total authorized MFT expenditure of$62S,000. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> January 7,2013—City Council approved Resolutian No. R2013-01 authorizing a preliminary <br /> design services agreement between the Gity of Decatur and URS Corporation to complete a <br /> preliminary design to improve the Maund Road bridges aver Spring Creek for a fee not to exceed <br /> $22,100. <br /> January 7,2013—City Council approved Resolution No. R2013-02 appropriating $22,100 in State <br /> Mator Fuel Tax funds to pay for the agreement with URS Carporation ta complete a preliminary <br /> design for the subject bridges. <br /> June 20,2016—City Council was given a memorandurn detailing the condition and status of the <br /> City's bridges that fall within the jurisdiction of the National Bridge Inspectian Standards(NBIS). <br /> This memorandum identified bridges with structural concerns including the three bridges on East <br /> Mound Road aver Spring Creek. The east most Mound Road bridge was replaced in 2016. This <br /> project will design improvements for the middle and west bridges. <br /> July 3,2017—City Council approved Resolution R2017-88 autharizing a professional engineering <br /> services agreement between the City af Decatur and AECOM Technical Services, Inc., (AECOM) <br /> to perforrn bridge design services for the Mound Road/ Spring Creek West and Middle bridges far <br /> a fee of$339,100. <br /> ^' 1� <br />
