December 21, 2020
TO: Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe & Members of the City Council
FROM: Scot Wrighton, City Manager
Jon Kindseth, Deputy City Manager
RE: Lease Agreement for Property Purchased for future Station #7
Previous decisions by the City Council have guided staff,to acquire suitable property for a
replacement of Fire Station #7, in accordance with the recommendations of the city's fire
station consultant and architect, Dewberry&Associates. The City Council approved the
purchase of 3530 E. Chestnut Ave. in July and staff is closing on the property in December.
Securing the interest in this property will provide the City with the opportunity to improve our
fire department response time should the City Council still choose to replace current station#7.
The City has delayed the closing on the property as long as we can, in order to allow the seller
time to find a new home, and more importantly to continue to mow and maintain the property.
As was discussed, during the time of authorization to purchase, the City has crafted a lease
agreement with the current owner to allow him to continue to live in the house, while covering
utility costs, keeping property taxes current as well as maintaining the property until such time
the City should choose to proceed with constructing Station #7. The City hopes to keep the
property occupied until such time it is necessary to start the demolition of the home for the
new fire station.
Attachments include an approval resolution and a residential lease agreement for the property.
