Sustainability and Expansion
While the initial OKO Green program will focus on a cohort of youth working 15-20 hours per
week for eight weeks (June -August 2023),the long-term vision is to create a sustainable and
scalable model that can be replicated and expanded to serve additional at-risk youth and
neighborhoods.
Revenue generated through the sale of wildflowers, pumpkins, okra, sod and/or other gardening
crops, as well as income from lawn care contracts, will be reinvested in the program to support
ongoing operations, maintenance, and growth. In addition, OKO Green will explore
opportunities to expand its range of services and develop partnerships with other local
organizations, businesses, and institutions. Finally, the OKO Green program was started with a
monetary gift from a committed benefactor, which funds can be tapped as needed for operational
expenses.
3
