on the street side of the curb stop as well as the customer service line on the private side of
the curb stop.
Disturbance of the existing water service line should be minimized. Cleaning of the
water service lines is not required.
The locations at which Exploratory Excavations shall be performed are as listed in the
Appendix. The Contractor may request the Engineer to approve a change of the daylighting
' to an adjacent location if a particular curb stop is within a paved surface or otherwise difficult
to access.
' Exploratory Excavation shall be performed according to Section 22 of the Standard
Specifications for Water and Sewer Construction in Illinois, latest edition. Contractor may
select the means and methods for Exploratory Excavation; however, the City prefers methods
' that involve the least possible surface disturbance or disturbance to the water service line.
' The Contractor shall perform tests to investigate the actual material of the water
service line. One acceptable method is to perform a magnet test with a neodymium magnet of
at least 500 lb pull strength. Water service lines that have a magnetic pull shall be counted as
galvanized. Water service lines that do not have a magnetic pull shall be counted as non-
galvanized. The Contractor may propose alternate methods.
1 The Contractor shall take three photographs of the site: 1) the exposed water service
line on the PWS side, 2) the exposed water service line on the customer side, and 3) a photo
of the site with the excavated hole in the foreground and the building served by the water
service line in the background. For the first two photographs, the use of an endoscopic sewer
camera connected to a mobile device is encouraged but not required.
' The Contractor shall provide the inspection results on ArcGIS Field Maps, a web-
based app suitable for mobile devices. The app is available for download at no cost. The City
will publish a field map for Contractor use which will be pre-loaded with the water service
line points and a data entry form. The Contractor will need to click on the point, then click on
whether the PWS and customer water service lines tested as galvanized or non-galvanized at
that location. The Contractor will also upload the three photos to the point. The point will
change color once all of the data is uploaded.
The Exploratory Excavation pothole shall be backfilled with earth and/or sand and
' compacted with hand tamping to original grade. Surface restoration is not anticipated.
Spoils from the Exploratory Excavation may be disposed of at a stockpile behind the
' City's Municipal Services Center, 2600 N. Jasper Street, Decatur, IL.
The exploratory excavation hole at each curb stop shall be counted as one EACH
EXPLORATORY EXCAVATION.
