City Council Memorandum
NO. 2024-04
DATE: August 5,2024
TO: Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe
City Council Members
FROM: Tim Gleason, City Manager
Jon Kindseth, Deputy City Manager
SUBJECT: Resolution Authorizing the City of Decatur to Accept the Proposal from
G&H Marine Inc for an Additional Boat Slip and Existing Dock Removal
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that City Council authorize this additional boat slip to be added to the recently
approved City boat docks to replace the Fire Department's current boat dock, in preparation for
the replacement of the boat ramps anticipated in 2025.
PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION:
The City Council approved a contract with G&H Marine Inc,in May of 2024 to replace four boat
slips for the City Lake Patrol division. This proposal would add one more boat slip to the dock
system, bringing it to a total of five City boat slips. This provides for a uniform consistent boat
dock system matching all of the other public boat docks that G&H has been adding over the past
couple of years.
The current city boat docks, both Lake Patrol and Fire Department docks are too close to the
current boat ramps and will need to be removed in order to facilitate the ramp replacement
project coming in 2025. Adding this one additional slip for the fire department will provide a
much better and cheaper solution than building an entirely new stand alone dock as it currently
is.
STAFF REFERENCE: Jon Kindseth, Deputy City Manager, will be in attendance at the City
Council meeting to answer any questions of the Council on this item.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: This new dock will be funded by the facilities budget
within the Fire Department's Council approved 2024 budget.
