dip Dfr
Guidepost
Roadway Conditions and Geometry
The public identified several roadway segments with unsafe conditions, including large potholes, uneven
surfaces, and areas that become slick when wet. This category also includes visibility issues caused by
landscaping or other fixed objects. Additionally, some locations where roadway geometry, such as lane
configuration or width, could be improved to enhance safety were noted. Recommended countermeasures
will focus on addressing these concerns.
Other
Some public comments fell outside the scope of traffic safety for this project and were not used to identify
areas of emphasis. These included concerns such as signal timing complaints,late-night street racing, issues
on private property, and other crime-related activities. The Police Department and the Public Works
Departments will be informed of these concerns so they can take appropriate action.
Stage 2
Community and Pop-up Events
Community and pop-up events provided an important opportunity to meet residents where they are, allowing the
project team to engage directly with people in familiar, accessible settings. By participating in local gatherings, the
team was able to reach a broader and more diverse audience, including residents who might not engage through the
online platform. These in-person interactions facilitated meaningful conversations, helped the team better understand
lived experiences, and allowed community members to share their safety concerns and ideas in real time. Engaging
residents in familiar settings increased participation and built trust, supporting a collaborative approach to enhancing
transportation safety across the city.
Pop-up Event#1: Hardy's Race for the Lake
On Saturday,June 7,2025,the project team had a tabling opportunity for the Hardy's Race for the Lake at Nelson Park.
In attendance from 9 a.m.to noon, the table hosted an opportunity for outreach materials to be distributed. The table
hosted engagement flyers, an overview exhibits, and two iPads for those
tzP s ! unable to utilize their own devices, allowing attendees to provide
'7-- ;74111i'dniara= comments on the interactive map.
Engaging with several City of Decatur and Macon County community
members, the project team distributed engagement cards and flyers to
those who stopped by. A city council member stopped by the table to
inquire about the project, and when informed the project team gave several
flyers to the council member to distribute within their network.
kapui Page 11 of 81
liimm all in
