Many contributions highlighted
streets where residents witnessed crashes or suggested specific improvements. A recurring theme was speeding,
with multiple participants recommending speed bumps at various locations to help reduce excessive speeds. Signage
was also mentioned frequently, as residents felt that additional or improved signage could enhance visibility and
create a safer environment for all users. Community members also noted gaps in the sidewalk network and
recommended adding or completing sidewalks in areas where they currently drop off to improve pedestrian safety
and connectivity. A full summary of contributions can be found in Appendix D.
The following roadways were noted as key locations of concern:
, W Eldorado Street , W Grand Avenue
N MacArthur Road &W Mound Road area • Millikin University area
N Main Street West End Neighborhood
= E Lost Bridge Road
After reviewing the contributions, the project team organized the public's main concerns into the following
categories.
Pedestrian Safety and Accommodation
Community feedback highlighted numerous locations that pose challenges for people walking or biking. The
top concerns were unsafe intersections and gaps in sidewalks or bike lanes. The recommended
countermeasures in this plan are designed to address these issues directly.
Speeding
Speeding was a recurring concern among the public, particularly on long, straight roadway segments and
smaller local streets. The recommended countermeasures will focus on addressing these specific areas to
enhance safety and reduce speeding-related issues.
Traffic Control
The public raised concerns about traffic control and drivers' interactions with it. Uncontrolled intersections
were frequently noted as areas of concern, while other locations experienced issues with drivers ignoring
existing traffic controls. Certain signalized intersections were also identified as candidates for
reconfiguration to enhance safety. The recommended countermeasures will focus on improving these types
of intersections.
kapur Page 10 of 81
