Describe the benefits of the proposed funding for First Responders.
This funding will improve responder safety and service delivery by upgrading critical communication and medical equipment.New radios will replace aging units, ensuring reliable
communication during emergency operations.Transitioning to 12-lead cardiac monitors will enhance patient care by enabling early identification and treatment of life-threatening
cardiac conditions.
2. Describe the project/projects to be implemented with the proposed funds.
The proposed funding will support two critical initiatives:upgrading the department's radio communication system through the purchase of new portable radios, and significantly
enhancing our cardiac monitoring capabilities.
The new radios will replace aging equipment, improving reliability and communication during emergency operations.Additionally, the acquisition of advanced 12-lead cardiac
monitors will ensure compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health standards and enable our personnel to provide a higher level of prehospital care that is not possible with
our current equipment.
3.Describe the impact the proposed funds will have on the community you serve, include projected individuals this will impact.
The proposed funding will enhance the quality and efficiency of emergency services provided to the community.Upgraded cardiac monitors will allow for earlier identification and
treatment of life-threatening conditions, improving patient outcomes.New portable radios will strengthen communication during emergencies, resulting in faster, more
coordinated responses.
These improvements will directly benefit the entire population served by the Decatur Fire Department—impacting approximately all residents and visitors within our response
area—as well as all on-duty personnel who rely on this equipment to safely and effectively deliver emergency services.
