Public Works Memorandum
NO. 2015-15
DATE: April 10, 2015
TO: Honorable Mayor McElroy and City Council
FROM: Tim Gleason, City Manager
Richard G. Marley, P.E., Public Works Director
SUBJECT: Streetscape Festival Power Wiring,
City Project 2014-27
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the contract for
the Strcetscape Festival Power Wiring Project, City Project 2014-27,to Bodine Electric of
Decatur, as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$101,239.74 and that the Mayor be
authorized to execute the contract and the City Clerk to attest.
PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION:
Appendix A provides a summary of the prior Council actions related to this item.
BACKGROUND:
Project Description
From the beginning of the downtown streetscape planning process, it was determined that the
work should include conduit for a future underground power system for festivals. A planned
power grid was laid out during the design process and conduits were installed as part of the
streetscape work. This project will install wiring in those conduits that cover the areas used most
often as part of downtown festivals, including the Decatur Celebration.
Letting Results
The project scope and specifications were prepared by Architectural Expressions, LLP and the
Public Works Engineering Division. The project was advertised on March 25, 2015, and bids were
-opened on April 10, 2015. The results of the letting are as follows (bid tabulation attached):
Bidder Bid Price Compared to Engineer's Est.
Over(-Under)
Bodine Electric of Decatur $101,239.74 (49.31%)
Anderson Electric $128,993.94 (-35.42%)
Engineer's Estimate $199,741.10 -----
Page I 1
