R2015-45 ACCEPTING THE BID - STREETSCAPE FESTIVAL POWER WIRING

Two contractors took out bid packages and submitted a bid proposal for the Streetscape Festival Power Wiring Project. Bodine Electric of Decatur provided the lowest responsible bid at 49.31% below the engineer's estimate. Bodine Electric has successfully completed many projects of this type for the City. The Engineer's Estimate was quite high for this work due to concern over the cost of the copper wiring. The bids received reflected the lower cost of copper. Contractors for City Projects shall comply with City Code Chapter 28, Article 10, "Minority Participation Goals for Public Works Contracts." Contractors for City projects shall make a good faith effort to comply with the following minimum goals: 1. Ten(10) percent of the total dollar amount of the contract should be performed by Minority Business Enterprises if subcontracting opportunities are available; and, 2. Eighteen(18)percent of the total hours worked should be performed by minority workers. Subcontracting is not required for a City project. Bodine Electric does not intend to use subcontractors for this project. SCHEDULE: Work on this project will begin in May and is to be completed by the second week in July. BUDGEUTIME IMPLICATIONS: Budget Impact: Funding for this project is allocated in the 2010 Bond Project Fund. It is proposed that a total project expenditure of$101,239.74 be authorized. Staff Impact: City staff time has been allocated for this project. POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution and bid award.
