PUBLIC WORKS MEMORANDUM <br /> NO. 2015-05 <br /> DATE: February 5, 2015 <br /> TO: Honorable Mayor McElroy and City Council Members <br /> FROM: Gregg D. Zientara, Interim City Manager <br /> Richard G. Marley,P.E., Public Works Director <br /> Deborah M. Perry, Purchasing Supervisor <br /> SUBJECT: Bi-Annual Material Purchases for the Public Works Department <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve, that the Mayor be authorized to sign, and <br /> the City Clerk attest to the following resolutions awarding two year contracts to purchase <br /> construction materials for City maintenance work: <br /> 1. Resolution approving a contract for $118,025 with Dunn Company, as the lowest qualified <br /> bidder to provide asphalt, beginning February 18, 2015, and ending December 31, 2016. <br /> 2. Resolution approving a contract for$56,479 with Beelman Logistics, LLC, as the lowest <br /> qualified bidder to provide crushed stone aggregate, beginning February 18, 2015, and ending <br /> December 31, 2016. <br /> 3. Resolution approving a contract for $289,400 with Grohne Concrete, as the lowest qualified <br /> bidder to provide portland cement concrete, beginning February 18, 2015, and ending <br /> December 31, 2015. The Grohne contract is only for this calendar year. <br /> 4. Resolution approving a contract for $22,525 with Contractors Recycled Materials, as the lowest <br /> qualified bidder to provide sand, beginning February 18, 2015, and ending December 31, 2016. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> The City lets material contracts every two years to provide construction materials for street <br /> maintenance work performed by the Public Works Department. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> The City has material contracts open throughout the year to provide materials for street maintenance <br /> work. Asphalt materials are used for pothole patching and general street repairs. Concrete is used <br /> primarily for street and sidewalk repairs. Aggregate and sand is used to provide backfill material <br /> for any trenching or pavement repair work. Larger aggregate is used for erosion control and to help <br /> stabilize road repairs in areas with poor base material. <br /> Page I 1 <br />
