8.1.2 ASTR025 Outdoor Location Solution
Motorola's ASTR04'25 Outdoor Location Solution is offered on the ASTROe'' 5 Conventional 3.1
Integrated Voice&Data(IV&D) System,the ASTRO"25 Trunking Integrated Voice &Data (IV&D)
System, and the ASTRO 25 High Performance Data(HPD) System using the F band, UHF Range 1,
UHF Range 2, 700 MHz,and/or 800 MHz. It uses Global Positioning System( PS) Satellites to
provide the location of personnel and vehicles which can be fed to a map based location application to
provide dispatch operators with an invaluable tool for managing and tracking p rsonnel and resources.
The ability to locate users in a mission critical situation dramatically increases ser safety while
improving resource allocation and responsiveness.
The ASTRO"25 Outdoor Location Solution is intended for use only in outdoor locations and not in
buildings or structures. In certain situations, due to the limitations of the GPS to hnology,a user can be
outside and will not have GPS coverage. This is due to the limitation of the GP technology itself. For
example, GPS does not work well in buildings, tunnels, parking garages, and h vy tree coverage. The
ASTRO 25 Outdoor Location Solution is a data component to the overall AST 025 system. Voice
traffic will have precedence over data transfer in ASTR025 systems;thus,in si ations when voice
traffic is heavy, data transfer will possibly be delayed.
The following Figure 8-4: (For Illustrative Purposes Only)Example of the AST 025 Outdoor Location
Solution shows an example of the typical components for the ASTROt,25 Outd or Location solution.
UNS
Presence
Notltier
GPS SalaBaes i -
M-onabled XTS5000
Remote Speaker
Mkvophone XT52500 \,\ f DlsoetCher
_
25
Cekocator Dlympic XTL 5000_`'-.y ASTR025 GnmrenNarrsl lYEO, LacnBon AP3
for ASTRO XTL 2500 - or o+ ,;
XTL 1500 ASTR025'TrunklogIV&D
ASTRO Specue Pim - .atnd/ar .'..+
_ :ASTR025 High'PMamMine Dole--
MOPS J Location Dispatcher
AppEcation
Trimble's Plover XTL5000
Gold'"APU XTL 2500 ,r
or DRU Plus XTL11500ASTRO Spectra Pim f
Dispatch-
"PD-1000 Det.
...
