Marley, P.E., Public Works Director <br /> SUBJECT: Agreement with the State of Illinois for Improvements to Lake Shore Drive and <br /> 22nd Street (IL Rt. 105) from Old Route 51 to Route 36 <br /> City Project 2014-01, Section 14-00401-00-TL <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached Resolutions authorizing the Mayor to sign <br /> and the City Clerk to attest to the following items related to the improvement of Lake Shore Drive <br /> and 22nd Street (Illinois Route 105) from Old Route 51 to U.S. Route 36: <br /> 1. Resolution appropriating $120,000 in Motor Fuel Tax funds to pay for the work outlined in the <br /> City-State Agreement. These funds include$105,029 estimated in the agreement plus $14,971 as <br /> a contingency. <br /> 2. Resolution authorizing an agreement with the State of Illinois for improvements to Lake Shore <br /> Drive and 22nd Street (IL Rte 105). City involved work includes paving side street approaches, <br /> installing curb ramps on side streets, and completing traffic signal improvements. The <br /> Agreement is for$105,029 with a provision to provide any additional funds necessary to cover <br /> the actual costs. This resolution will be Exhibit A in the Agreement. <br /> 3. Resolution authorizing the Mayor to approve the plans and specifications for the City's portion of <br /> the work and attendant maintenance obligations. The plans are on file in the Public Works office. <br /> This resolution will be Exhibit B in the City-State Agreement. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> There have been no prior Council actions on this item. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Lake Shore Drive & 22"d Street Pavement Improvement <br /> In January 2014, the City was informed by the Illinois Department of Transportation(IDOT)of their <br /> intention to complete a major street improvement along Illinois Route 105 between Old Route 51 and <br /> U.S. Route 36, which encompasses portions of Lake Shore Drive and 22nd Street in the City. The <br /> work is to include improving traffic signals along the route along with milling off the existing <br /> pavement and overlaying the road with new asphalt. <br /> Page I 1 <br />
