The Union Street Sewer will be lined with a cured-in-place pipe liner and manhole
will also be rehabilitated with a cementitious lining. The Union Street Relief Sewer is in good
structural condition, but the joints within the pipe will be tested for water-tightness and sealed if
they do not pass. Finally, there is a 24" sewer lying under the Union Street Sewer in the vicinity
of Greenwood Park. It is believed that this sewer was constructed before the Union Street
Sewer, possibly around the time of the Civil War, and is no longer needed. The sewer is not
structurally sound and any collapse in this pipe could cause a collapse of the Union Street Sewer.
This 24" sewer will be filled with grout during this project in order to ensure that it doesn't
negatively affect the Union Street Sewer.
Page 13
