Walker,Chief of Police <br /> DATE: March 05,2014 <br /> SUBJECT: Police Evidence Lab Equipment <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: The purpose of this memorandum is to request the expenditure of <br /> funds to SIRCHIE Corporation for the acquisition of evidence lab equipment to be housed at the new <br /> Decatur Police Department located at 707 Southside Drive. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Decatur Police Department shares space at the current LEC that is deemed a lab. <br /> Contained within the lab are shared evidence dryers,cannabis testing tanks,and finger print glue tanks <br /> used by Decatur Detectives and MSO Sheriff personnel for the drying and processing of evidence, <br /> cannabis,and finger print examination. The Decatur Police Department is the primary user of this <br /> equipment however it was purchased by the Public Building Commission (PBC) and will remain at the <br /> LEC. The Decatur Police Department will move to the new police station during the second quarter of <br /> 2014 and will need the evidence dryers,cannabis testing tanks and fingerprint exam tanks in order to <br /> process the varying types of evidence brought in by Decatur Police personnel. <br /> Staff has tested and utilized the recommended equipment from SIRCHIE and believes it best meets the <br /> evidence processing needs of the Decatur Police Department. <br /> Attached to this memorandum is the price quote from SIRCHIE for the recommended equipment. <br /> Funding will be from the Decatur Police Crime Lab Fund 2014 budget line item. <br /> ATTACHMENT: SIRCHIE Price Quotation <br /> POTENTIAL OBJECTIONS: None <br /> STAFF REFERENCE: <br /> Todd A.
