APPOINTMENTS FROM ELIGIBLE REGISTERS. <br /> A. Department directors, as appointing officers, are authorized to appoint any candidate <br /> for any non-promotional classified position with the City who is placed on the eligible register <br /> for such position by the Civil Service Commission, without regard to the rat of said person on <br /> such register. <br /> B. With regard to the register of candidates for original appointment to the Police <br /> Department, the Civil Service Commission shall strike off names of candidat s from said register <br /> after they have remained thereon for one(1) year. <br /> (Amended, Ordinance No. 2002-03, January 4, 2002) <br /> 24. COMMISSION RULES. Except as the provisions of Sections 18 through 23, <br /> inclusive, are applicable to the City Manager, the power and authority cf the Civil Service <br /> Commission to make rules shall apply thereto to carry out the purpose and i itent thereof, but no <br /> rule contrary to or in conflict with said provisions shall be made. <br /> 25. DEFENSE AND INDEMNITY. Except for gross negligence, willful and wanton <br /> conduct or criminal misconduct, if any claim or action is instituted against n officer, employee <br /> or member of a board, commission or committee of the City, or a former officer, employee or <br /> member, based upon an injury allegedly arising out of an act or omission ccurring within the <br /> performance of the duties on behalf of the City of such officer, employee or member, provided <br /> notice of such claim or action is given to the City Clerk within a reasonable time, the City, at it's <br /> option, shall do or cause to be done, one or more of the following: <br />
