City of Decatur, Illinois
Blade Server Installation
Statement of Work for Blade Server Installation
1. GENERAL BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Background Information-The City of Decatur, Illinois has an existing virtualization environ-
ment that consists of VMware 5.0 hosted on 3 Dell servers. There is an Equalogic SAN in use for
storage by the existing VMware vSphere 5.0 servers. They are currently production servers run-
ning in this environment. The City of Decatur also owns an EMC VNX 5300 SAN and Cisco
UCS that is currently hosting a VMware View 5 platform. These two enviroments are managed
from a single VMware 5.1 vCenter.
The City of Decatur wants to move the existing virtual machines from the existing Dell platform
to the Cisco &EMC platform used for VDI today. This requires additional disk be added to the
VNX 5300 for capacity and performance. It also requires additional Cisco B200 M3 Server
blades to be added to the existing Cisco B Series server chassis. City of Decatur plans on mov-
ing the existing VMware vSphere Enterprise licenses from the Dell hosts to the new Cisco UCS
blade servers. As a part of this move City of Decatur will be adding a second VMware vCenter
server to manage the server environment and continue to use the existing vCenter to manage the
VMware View environment. Upgrading to the most current version of VMware vSphere is an-
other important goal. Once the new VMware infrastructure is in place, migration of the existing
virtual machines from the current VMware platform will be necessary.
2. Technical Specifications
a. Proiect Scope and Statement of Work
The designed system will meet the City of Decatur's requirements for a highly avail-
able solution that upgrades the VMware environment to the most current versions
available.
The solution includes:
• VMware Servers
o Three Cisco UCS B200 M3 (128 GB RAM/Dual 2650 CPU) Series
blade servers
o Will run VMware vSphere 5.5 Enterprise—licenses transferred from
the existing Dell servers
• Storage
o Add one new DAE shelf(2.5 inch X 25 drives)to the existing
VNX5300
