Marley, P.E., Public Works Director <br /> SUBJECT: Resolution Appropriating Motor Fuel Tax Funds for Street Improvements <br /> City Project 2012-08, 2012-11 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached resolutions appropriating Motor <br /> Fuel Tax (MFT) funds for proposed 2012 street improvement projects and that the Mayor be <br /> authorized to sign said resolutions, and the City Clerk to attest. <br /> 1. The appropriation of$1,400,000 for asphalt street improvements. <br /> 2. The appropriation of$350,000 for concrete street reconstruction. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> Each year the City Council appropriates MFT funds for street provement work. MFT funds are <br /> allocated for street improvement work as part of the Fiscal Ye 2013 Capital Improvement Plan. <br /> May 2, 2011 —Council approved Resolution R2011-61 appropriating $350,000 in Motor Fuel <br /> Tax funds for concrete street reconstruction. The funding was allocated to complete Phase 1 of <br /> the L &A Industrial Park Drive Concrete Pavement Reconstruction project. <br /> September 6, 2011 — Council approved Resolution R2011-141 awarding the contract for the <br /> Concrete Street Reconstruction, L &A Industrial Drive, City Project 2011-11, to Otto Baum <br /> Company, Inc., in the amount of$312,577.25. The resolution authorized an expenditure of up to <br /> $340,000 to allow $27,422 for project contingencies. This project reconstructed the eastbound <br /> (south) lane with the expectation to complete the westbound (north) lane in 2012. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Motor Fuel Taxes are levied and collected by the State of Illinois; funds are allocated to local <br /> agencies and are administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The City is <br /> required to adopt a resolution specifying the allocation of MFT funds to their intended project. <br /> IDOT must receive an MFT appropriation before they will approve project specifications. <br /> Page I 1 <br />
