Marley, P.E., Public Works Director <br /> SUBJECT: Bridge Repair Project for the Country Club Bridge over Lake Decatur and <br /> the Garfield Bridge over 22"d Street, <br /> City Project 2011-27, Section No. 11-00127-00-BR <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached Resolutions authorizing the Mayor <br /> to sign and the City Clerk to attest to the following items: <br /> 1. A Resolution awarding the contract for the Bridge Repair Project for the Country Club <br /> Bridge over Lake Decatur and the Garfield Bridge over 22nd Street, City Project 2011-27, <br /> to Halverson Construction Company, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount <br /> of$48,105. <br /> 2. A Resolution appropriating $53,105 in Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds to pay for the <br /> Bridge Repair Project, City Project 2011-27, Section No. 11-00127-00-BR. The <br /> appropriation authorizes the bid amount plus a project contingency of$5,000. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> August 1, 2011 - Council approved Resolution R2011-120 authorizing a design services <br /> agreement between the City of Decatur and Homer L. Chastain & Associates to perform the <br /> design of bridge repairs for the Country Club Bridge over Lake Decatur and the Garfield Bridge <br /> over 22nd Street for a fee not to exceed $19,740. <br /> August 1, 2011 - Council approved Resolution R2011-121 appropriating $19,740 in Motor Fuel <br /> Tax (MFT) funds to pay for the design services agreement with Homer L. Chastain& Associates <br /> to complete the design for subject bridge repairs. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> All bridges owned by the City are required by the Federal Government to be inspected every two <br /> years to assure the safety of the structures. Routine inspections of two of the City's bridges <br /> identified the need for structural repairs. <br /> Page I I <br />
