Marley, P.E., Public Works Director <br /> SUBJECT: Revised Resolution for the Amendment to the Agreement with URS Corporation <br /> for Final Design of the South Shores Bridge over the Sand Creek Arm of Lake <br /> Decatur <br /> City Project 2009-05 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached resolution rescinding and revising <br /> resolution R2012-10 which approved an amendment to the design services agreement between the City <br /> of Decatur and URS Corporation to perform the design for the replacement of the South Shores Bridge <br /> over Sand Creek for an additional expenditure of$27,000 which is added to the current authorized fee <br /> of$219,200 for a total not to exceed fee of$246,200. <br /> The revised resolution specifies that the additional funds authorized for the amendment will be drawn <br /> from the Motor Fuel Tax fund. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> • August 2, 2004—Council approved Resolution R2004-115 authorizing an Agreement with <br /> Homer L. Chastain& Associates (Chastain) to inspect five precast concrete deck bridges, <br /> including South Shores/ Sand Creek, for a fee not to exceed $7,965. <br /> • April 20, 2009—Council approved Resolution R2009-50 authorizing an agreement with URS <br /> Corporation to complete a preliminary design of the South Shores Bridge over the Sand Creek <br /> Arm of Lake Decatur at a cost of$77,500. <br /> • September 20, 2010—The City Council, in study session, recommended increasing the bridge <br /> clearance by approximately 3 feet to provide better access for Sand Creek Basin boaters. This <br /> stemmed from a public meeting held on April 28, 2010,to present the preliminary design and <br /> receive public input. Area residents voiced concern regarding the limited clearance for boats <br /> under the bridge and requested that the bridge be raised to provide more clearance. <br /> • December 6, 2010—The City Council approved Resolution R2010-232 authorizing <br /> Supplement #1 to the Agreement with URS Corporation for the preliminary design of the South <br /> Shores Bridge over the Sand Creek Arm of Lake Decatur. The supplement was to complete the <br /> preliminary design to raise the bridge by approximately 3 feet. The expenditure for the services <br /> provided in Supplement #1 was not to exceed $57,200 which brought the total cost of the <br /> preliminary design agreement to $134,700. <br /> Page I 1 <br />
