A garage was to be constructed to house their church vans, outdoor maintenance equipment as
well as general storage, most of which are currently housed offsite. Possible locations for the
garage included west of the proposed economy shop, west of the west parking lot and just south
of the two parking lots located on West King Street.
On May 6, 2010 the City Plan Commission voted 7-0 to approve the PD Planned Development
District Amendment. The petition was approved by City Council by a 6-0 vote on May 17,
2010.
At this time the petitioner proposed to amend their PD Planned Development District in order to
replace their existing lighting with new light fixtures in the parking lot. The Zoning Ordinance
allowed the site to be rezoned to PD without a site plan but no development could occur until a
plan had been approved by the City Council.
The petitioner proposes to amend their PD Planned Development District at this point to allow
for the construction of a garage, additional signage and to approve an actual PD plan. The
proposed garage will be 32 feet by 48 feet(32' x 48') and will be 50 feet from the south property
line and 12 feet from the west property line.
The signage being proposed is as follows:
a. Direction Sign Panel 1: Double sided non-illuminated directional sign. The sign will
be 28 inches by 36 inches. The overall height shall not exceed three (3) feet.
b. Direction Sign Panel 2: Single sided non-illuminated directional sign. The sign will
be 36 inches by 48 inches. The overall height shall not exceed four(4) feet.
c. Direction Sign Panel 3: Double sided non-illuminated directional sign. The sign will
be 28 inches by 36 inches. The overall height shall not exceed three (3) feet.
d. Sign Panel 4: Single sided non-illuminated directional sign. The sign will be 36
inches by 48 inches. The overall height shall not exceed four(4) feet.
e. Sign Panel 5: Double sided non-illuminated directional sign. The sign will be 36
inches by 48 inches. The overall height shall not exceed four(4) feet.
f. Signage is also proposed on the wall of the annex building. The wall signage will not
exceed ten percent (10%) of the wall on which it is displayed.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There were no known objectors at the Plan Commission
Meeting.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: The PD Amendment has been reviewed by the City's
Technical Review Committee; Planning, Engineering and Fire have approved the PD
Amendment.
STAFF REFERENCE: Any additional questions may be forwarded to Joselyn A. Stewart at
424-2782 or at jstewartgdecaturil.gov.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: None.
