TO: Mayor McElroy and City Council Members
FROM: Ryan P. McCrady, City Manager
Celeste F. Harris, City Clerk
RE: EASTER SEALS CENTRAL ILLINOIS
DATE: May 11, 2011
At Monday's meeting, the City Council will be asked to adopt the
attached ordinance allowing for the consumption of alcoholic liquor
on public right-of-way.
On Saturday, June 4, Easter Seals Central Illinois, Inc. plans to
sponsor the "Kick-N-Asphalt" Autism Run, a benefit run for Easter
Seal's summer autism camp.
Race participants will start at the intersection of Water and Main
Streets and will run on streets located within the Central Business
District. A beer table will be set up on Merchant Street for race
participants to consume a small drink of beer. The consumption of
alcohol is optional.
The event begins at 5:00 p.m. with the run ending at 7:00 p.m. at
which time the band, Imagine That, will perform for participants,
their family members, and the public. Downtown restaurant
establishment will provide light appetizers along the race route.
The Decatur Police Department has authorized the closure of
affected streets and auxiliary police will provide assistance.
This run is similar to an event which has been held in Springfield
for a number of years with huge success.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Attachment
