t
Water well information is gathered through the use of the Source Water Assessment Program
(SWAP) database. This database is a compilation of data from the Illinois State Geologic
Survey, the Illinois State Water Survey, the Illinois Department of Public Health, and the IEPA.
The estimated area impacted by contaminated ground water from the Nims Hardwick Union 76
site located at 266 West Main Street is shown on Exhibit A in the information provided by Nims'
environmental engineer, Bodine Environmental Services, Inc.
Bodine completed a water well survey through the IEPA's SWAP database and has identified
four wells within the prohibition area that could be affected by the contaminated ground water.
The area encroaches into the downtown, and the area is very developed. Bodine was required to
investigate each well and assure that each was no longer in service. Bodine's investigation
determined that each identified well is either no longer in service or that the properties are
connected to City water.
Frequently asked questions are attached hereto as Appendix A for the information of the City
Council.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this ordinance.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Bodine Environmental Services, Inc.
STAFF REFERENCE: Richard Marley, Director of Public Works and Matt Newell, City
Engineer. Richard Marley will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any
questions of the Council on this item.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS: Budget and staff time is negligible for these actions.
This memorandum was prepared by Matthew C.
