f EXCERPTS OF THE MINUTES OF THE TRAFFIC AND PARKING COMMISSION MEETING Tuesday, August 11, 2009, 4:00 P.M. Item#1 Request for an all way stop at the intersection of Water Street and Cerro Gordo Street. Matt said that the speeds were a little high on Water Street. The main problem is the site at that intersection. Site going north is pretty good. Site going south is pretty bad because of on-street parking along with trees. There are also homeless shelters in that area. The traffic volumes are fairly balanced at the intersection which is a prerequisite for an all way stop condition. Wick Anderson motioned to approve an all way stop be placed at the intersection seconded by Ed Harris. All were in favor. The Chairman declared the motion carried. Item#2 Request for an all way stop at the intersection of Witt Street and North Street. Appearance from Citizen Jamie Gahwiler expressing his concerns for the health and safety of his employees. Mr. Gahwiler also sees it as a pedestrian crossing problem around this location, especially if pedestrians cross the street to go to the park. There is an entrance to the park through the gates at this intersection. I know you did a traffic study during the summer at this location, but during the school year children walk across the street there to Hope Academy. There are also school bus issues there. We as a company are committed to Decatur. We have purchased 11 lots there that we maintain and keep up in the neighborhood. That is what we do to invest in Decatur and give back to the community. Ed Harris motioned to approve an all way stop at the intersection of Witt Street and North Street and to look at the overall neighborhood traffic patterns to see if a system of alternating stop would make sense in this neighborhood from Jasper to Prairie seconded by John Couter. All were in favor. The Chairman declared the motion carried.
