Marley, P.E., Director of Public Works
Keith D. Alexander, Director of Water Management
SUBJECT: Annual Water Main Replacement Project, City Project 2011-10
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the contract
for the Annual Water Main Replacement Project, City Project 2011-10,to Barr&Robison Sewer
& Excavating, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$320,403, and that the
Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest.
PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION:
The City Council approved the FY 2011-12 Capital Improvements Plan which included an
allocation of funds for this project. The City allocates funds for a yearly water main replacement
project.
BACKGROUND:
Project Description
The City's Annual Water Main Replacement project targets water main segments throughout the
City experiencing a high rate of main breaks. The Water Management Department tracks each
repair made and uses the compiled data to determine which water mains need to be replaced.
This project proposes replacement work at three locations:
1. Pershing Road at Dineen—The water main extending across Pershing Road at this
location is currently leaking. A new main will be bored under Pershing Road and the old
main abandoned.
2. South 44h Street between Greenhill and Cleveland—The water main serving this area is
experiencing a high rate of main breaks. The old 6" main will be replaced with an 8"
main to provide better water flow and more reliable service.
3. South Forest Crest Drive—The water mains serving the whole Forest Crest subdivision
are all experiencing a high rate of main breaks. Funding will not allow replacing all
water mains serving the subdivision this fiscal year. The water main on Forest Crest
Page I 1
