Marley, P.E., Director of Public Works <br /> SUBJECT: Resolution Approving Contract Amendment Change Order No. 1, Otto Baum <br /> Inc., Water Street Streetscape and Open Area Enhancement <br /> City Project 2010-14 <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended that the City Council approve the attached resolution authorizing Change Order <br /> No. 1 and additional funding in the amount of$36,165.58,be added to the contract for the Water <br /> Street Streetscape Enhancement Project, City Project 2010-14, for a total project cost of <br /> $805,974.48. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> Appendix A provides a summary of prior Council actions. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Current Project Status <br /> The first phase of the North Water Streetscape Enhancement project includes the 300 and 400 <br /> blocks of North Water Street along with the 200 block of East North Street. The appearance will be <br /> very similar to the existing streetscape on the east side of the 300 block of North Water. <br /> Work commenced on this phase of the downtown streetscape improvements during the second week <br /> of August. Most of the sidewalks in the project area have been removed and the new streetscape <br /> elements are being laid out and installed. <br /> The streetscape project to complete the balance of Water Street between William and Wood Streets <br /> is planned to be bid in late September with bids being received in October. Work on Main Street <br /> between Eldorado and Wood Street, including Merchant Street, is expected in early 2012. Franklin <br /> Street is planned to begin in 2013. <br /> Change Order <br /> City Staff requested that Phillip W. Cochran and their sub-consultant, Architectural Expressions, to <br /> prepare design drawings to install conduits within the current streetscape project area for future <br /> electrical wiring and fiber optic communication cable. The City's contractor, Otto Baum, Inc. <br /> provided a cost of$36,165.58 to complete the installation work. This cost appears to be reasonable <br /> for the work involved.
