.y
Conduits for Event Electricity: As part of the design process, discussions were held with
members of the Decatur Celebration organizing committee regarding the placement of underground
conduit to provide access to electricity cables for future Celebrations and other street events in the
downtown area. The streetscape project provides an excellent opportunity to install the necessary
infrastructure to move the electrical wires from overhead to underground. In addition, the new
street light poles proposed for downtown will not be strong enough to hold overhead wires. For
future events, provisions need to be made for providing electricity. It is proposed that conduits for
downtown event electricity be added to the future downtown projects.
Conduit for Fiber O tic Communication Cable: Discussions were held with the Decatur Police
Department and Bodine Electric regarding the installation of surveillance cameras in the downtown
area. As with the previous conduit discussion, the streetscape project provides an excellent
opportunity to install conduit for future communication cable that would connect surveillance
cameras with the Police Department and also provide a link to the Civic Center. It is proposed that
conduits for communication cable to connect surveillance cameras be included with the future
downtown projects.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution.
INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: Architectural Expressions
STAFF REFERENCE: Richard Marley, Public Works Director and Matt Newell, City Engineer.
Richard Marley will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any questions of the
Council on this item.
BUDGET/TIME IMPLICATIONS:
Budget Impact: Funding for this work is allocated as part of the General Obligation Bonds
authorized by the City Council on November 15, 2010.
